Overview

The Design Book, an independent design publication, wanted a flagship series on surviving critique — a topic every designer Googles at 1am. Over twelve long-form essays, Pagelark Words turned interview material and studio war stories into the site's most-read content.

Challenge

Design audiences smell generic advice instantly. Each piece had to combine genuine craft insight with search-friendly structure, so the series could rank for competitive terms while earning real backlinks from studios.

Approach

I interviewed six working designers, mapped the questions juniors actually ask, and wrote each essay around one uncomfortable truth plus one usable script — what to say when feedback stings. Monthly readers passed 10,000 within five months, and three essays still rank on page one.

  • 12 long-form essays, 1,200–1,800 words each
  • Designer interviews woven into every piece
  • 10,000+ monthly readers, page-one rankings
